Underwear is usually a garment worn under the clothes by both men and women with skin contact to protect the clothes from being soiled by any bodily discharge. They come in many forms and shapes.

Briefs underwear are lowers that men and women wear when they are participating in an athletic sport. The briefs usually have a high cut waist and because of that, it provides good support to the buttocks thus making movement easier when in action.

The briefs for men have short legs and stick to the body quite firmly. The area around the crotch also has a fly which allows for ventilation and for the little bit of movement that may be required. In the past briefs have been blamed to be the cause of low sperm count in men but scientific research has shown that it is not correct. Whilst they do interfere with the ventilation around the groin area which can reduce the number of living sperms in men but they do not have anything to do with reduced sperm count.

The briefs became popular in the in 1960s but in the recent past have lost their appeal and are rarely used by men as they can become a bit uncomfortable in some of the jobs we do in our daily life.

Women on the other hand have a lot less to worry about when wearing briefs. They would normally wear briefs when playing fast paced sports. Having said that they have a lot to choose from when in it comes to choosing a sports brief. The range begins with the classic brief that sits just above the waist and covers the entire hip.

Then there are the boyshorts. These look a lot like men’s briefs and extend just below the crotch area.

Hipsters are another choice the ladies have when it comes to choosing briefs. These sit just below the waist and cover the hip.

Other options include the bikini, thongs and G-Strings. These are very small very small undergarments that are mostly used for comfort rather than anything else.

In the recent past, a new type of brief has hit the market called the boxer briefs. These are predominantly for men who prefer the comfort of the boxers but like the support of the briefs. There are also other types of briefs in the market.

The low rise brief, as the name suggest, sits low on the hip. Traditionally it sits approximately 3cm below the waist and comes with and without the fly.

The mid rise brief is similar to the regular brief but just a bit shorter than the regular brief. It sits 2cm below the waist and always comes with a fly.

The sports briefs have recently hit the market and are replacing the athletic supporter at a very fast pace. The briefs come with a front pouch for the genitals and are considered to be a modest option than the sports bikini.
